It looks like there are some busy people on Dollar Lake in Eagle River these days. USA Hockey has posted pictures of the lake and the progress being made. You can see them here.
Just checked the temp in Eagle River, and even at this late hour, it's 38 degrees. A little worrisome, as the next couple of days are supposed to have highs in the upper 30's. The long range forecast has highs in the 20's and lows in the low teens starting next Thursday, though. If that holds up, we should be golden. The ice is at least thick enough that the plows are able to do their thing. At this point, I'd be a little more concerned about standing water on the surface or the ice being a little soft for effective skating. But, then, the argument could be made that no one in our group is that effective a skater to begin with.
No worries, though - I have faith the hockey gods will smile upon us. I'm going to channel my inner Punxsutawney Phil and predict some good hockey weather come next weekend. Maybe I should pack my water skies just in case...
