An Evening At The Dome

Dinner tonight was spent at Nero's - a favorite from last year. I went for the mushroom ravioli this time, although I was really tempted to go with my choice last year - giambotta. The ravioli did not disappoint. We had what seemed like a whole herd of Spotted Cow (a local brew that we happened upon at this very restaurant last year). Our dinner orders were a little delayed as one of our group decided to go "off menu". We also discovered during the meal that our waitress, Hillary, has a single tattoo at the base of her back (this discovery was the result of a table bet).

Following the meal, a certain contingent of our group headed back to the hotel to watch the opening ceremony of the olympics, while the majority of us made a trek to the Dome. As followers of this blog from last year will know, the Dome is Eagle River's local hockey rink. This place is awesome. It was constructed in the 30's (that's 1930's) entirely of wood. It's not very big - at max, it would probably only hold 800-1000 people, but that gives it a very intimate atmosphere that a bigger rink just can't match. Currently, the home town boys are winning 6-1, so the crowd is in a good mood. Concessions are pretty cheap, so we're enjoying some beer and popcorn while watching some entertaining hockey.
